Billboard Magazine Names Four O+Z Partners to 2024 “Top Music Lawyers” List 

Washington, D.C. (April 9, 2024) — Oppenheim + Zebrak, LLP (“O+Z”) partners Jeff Gould, Alex Kaplan, Matt Oppenheim, and Scott Zebrak have once again been named to Billboard magazine’s Top Music Lawyers list. The selection honors lawyers “on the front lines of the music industry’s legal battles and deals,” according to Billboard.

This is the fifth consecutive year that O+Z has appeared on the list.

For the 2024 list, Billboard noted O+Z’s representation of the major music companies (Universal Music Group, Concord Music Group, and ABKCO Music) in a suit brought last fall against AI company Anthropic for unlawfully using copyrighted music to train its generative AI products. Billboard also noted that O+Z continues to represent the major music companies in suits against large internet service providers (ISPs) for failing to stop copyright infringement on their platforms.

Matt Oppenheim adds, “The most pressing issue is protecting copyright owners from having their works used by AI without their permission or compensation.”
